Rowing

Uganda Rowing Federation is 30 years in existence. Part of these years was without the required FISA boats which were destroyed on Lake Victoria in the 70s during Military rule.  Rowing Originated in Uganda some years time immemorial from West Nile Region and Bunyoro Kingdom where the traditions of the use of boats were practiced until today on Lake Albert (Kabalega). Their crude rowing is known as GOYO - NGAI

In 1971/2 Mr. Nicholas Onegi – p’ Minga now the Assistant Secretary General of the Uganda Olympic Committee, was awarded a German Scholarship to go and train as a swimming Coach alongside George Odeke Athletics and James Adoa Basketball. He returned back to introduce the modern Olympic Rowing and subsequently; Handball, Archery, Canoe/Kayak/Slalom, and latest, Dragon Boat.

The Federation now boasts of 18 new Olympic boats which they are using now to induce several young talents of all ages and their prospective are extremely high. They are now developing a Youth and under 11-12; 13-14; 15-16 and 17-18 age groups. The results are promising.

The Federation had two FISA courses in 2005/6 in Mombassa and South Africa plus one successful Olympic Solidarity Course conducted by Mr. Jim Flood from England in July 2008. Pontious Ekyee Onegi and Martin Neen Komakec are the current outstanding top crews. The sport is to be officially launched in June this year.

Canoe is composed of the following Executive members;

  6. Mr. Hamza Kahwa - Assistant Secretary General
  7. Mr. Nestore Owing Jalobo - Hon. Treasurer.

Uganda free from ebola
Director General of health services Dr. D. K. Lwamafa confirmed safety of the country and that there is currently no travel ban in any part of the country, including Kibaale district which was the epicenter of the outbreak.


 Crime rate continues to fall

Crime, traffic and Road Safety reports indicate a reduction in crime rate in the country. Police registered a 3.8 percent further reduction in crime rate in the country.
